Six Meanings of would

  1. Used for Request
    :Would you please go to the drugstore for me?
  2. Used for Invitation (ex: Would you have dinner with us to night?)
  3. Used to Express Desire (would like) ==> ex: I'd like another cup of tea
  4. Used to Express Preference (would rather) ==>ex: I'd rather live in suburb, not the city
  5. Used in Reported Speech ==> ex: He said he would send the report
  6. Used to Indicate Refusal (past of won't) ==> Ellen wouldn't speak to him for three days
