Conditional Sentence Type 3

  • The first conditional and second conditionals talk about the future.
  • The third Conditional we talk about the Past.
  • There is no possibility for this condition.
  • It is also like a dream, but no possibility of the dream coming true.
  • The Real Fact is Past Tense

If PAST PERFECT, WOULD HAVE + V3 or
WOULD HAVE +V3 If PAST PERFECT

If S + had + V3 + C, S + Would have + V3

  • If I had taken the money, I would have had a plane
(Real Fact: I didn't take the money)
  • If I had won the lottery, I would have bought a car
(real fact: I didn't win the lottery)

If PAST PERFECT, WOULD HAVE + Been + Noun/Adjective/Adverb or
If Subject + had + been + noun/Adj./Adv., Subject + would have + been + Noun/Adj./Adv. + C

  • If she had had a beautiful cat, she would have been a model
  • If they had not passed their exam, their teacher would have been sad.
